Liam MacDaid

Liam Seán MacDaid (born July 19, 1945 in Bundoran , County Donegal ) is an Irish clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic Bishop of Clogher .

Life

MacDaid attended St Louis Infant School and St Macartan's National School in Bundoran, and St Macartan's College in Monaghan . He then studied from 1962 as a seminarian at St Patrick's College in Maynooth .

MacDaid was ordained a priest on June 15, 1969 . He then graduated from the National University of Ireland, Maynooth with a Diploma in Higher Education in 1970 and began teaching at St Macartan's College . From 1981 to 1989 he was President of St Macartan's College . From 1988 to 1996 he was chairman of the priestly council of the diocese of Clogher.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him Bishop of Clogher on May 6, 2010 . He was ordained episcopal on July 25th of the same year by the Archbishop of Armagh , Seán Baptist Cardinal Brady ; Co- consecrators were Noel Treanor , Bishop of Down and Connor , and MacDaid's predecessor, Joseph Duffy .

Pope Francis accepted his early resignation on October 1, 2016.
