The Libocký potok (also Přední Liboc , German Leibitschbach , Vordere Leibitsch ) is a left tributary of the Eger in the Czech Republic . It marks the border between the actual Bohemia and the historical Egerland .

Location and course

The stream rises on the western edge of the Czech Ore Mountains near to Kraslice ( Graslitz belonging) local part Počátky ( origin ) at the Počátecký vrch ( 819  m nm ). In the meadows of this mountain of origin lie the headwaters of the Schwarzbach, which drains to the north via the Weisse Elster and Saale, and the Zadní Liboc ( Rebbach ), with which it reunites after about 10 km. The source is located in the Dlouhá louka ( Long Meadow ) moorland . The stream runs south. On its banks are Mlynská ( Konstadt ), Liboc ( Frankenhammer ) and U Šindelárny ( Waffenhammer ). Coming from the right, the Čirý potok ( Lauterbach ) flows into Liboc . In the Leopoldový Hamry Nature Park in the Bohemian Elster Mountains south of the Libocký vrch (646 m) the Rear Leibitsch (Zadní Liboc) unites with the Front Leibitsch (Přední Liboc).

The Libocký potok then flows further to the south-east and has been dammed in the Horka dam to supply the city of Cheb with drinking water since 1969 . It has a capacity of 21.5 million m³ and a water area of 120 ha. The reservoir extends over a length of 5.6 km to Bernov ( Bernau ), the width is between 100 and 300 m. Other places on the stream are Hluboká ( Nonnengrün ), Kaceřov and Horní Pochlovice ( Oberpochlowitz ). At Liboc ( Leibitsch ) not far from Kynšperk nad Ohří ( Königsberg ad Eger ) the Libocký potok flows into the Eger after more than 30 km.

After the Second World War, the Leibitschtal was heavily evacuated due to the expulsion of the Sudeten German population.
