The Liddel Water is a river in the United Kingdom . It arises from the confluence of a number of smaller water courses including the Dead Sike , Rashy Sike , Hartwell Burn , Peel Burn , Holy Grain and Caddroun Burn east of Saughtree Fell in Scottish Borders , Scotland . It flows in a south-westerly direction and joins the Kershope Burn west of Kershopefoot . Now the Liddel Water forms the border between Scottish Borders and Cumbria , England . From the mouth of the Muir Burn into the Liddel Water, this forms the border between Cumbria and Dumfries and Galloway , Scotland. The Liddle Water joins the River Esk south of Canonbie .
