Valerie Anne Poxleitner aka Lights (born April 11, 1987 in Timmins , Ontario ) is a Canadian musician.
Life
Poxleitner was born in Timmins, Canada. Since her parents often moved, she spent her school days in the Philippines and Jamaica, among others . The family returned to Canada in 1997. Poxleitner then turned to music and soon wrote his first pieces of music. At the age of 18, she moved out of her home and settled in Toronto . Several of her pieces of music, including February Air , were used in an advertising campaign by the Canadian retail chain Old Navy .
In April 2008 their first self-titled EP LIGHTS was released , which reached number 3 on the MuchMusic Countdown . The follow-up single Drive My Soul then reached number 1 on MuchMusic. The single won several awards. This was followed by a first tour through Canada, the USA and Great Britain.
In 2009 the debut album The Listening was released , which was awarded a gold record in Canada in mid-November 2011 . On October 4th, 2011 Lights released her second studio album Siberia , for which she worked with the group Holy Fuck and rapper Shad . Lights recorded the song Don't Go with the British band Bring Me the Horizon in 2010 and the song Open Water in 2013 with the American band Blessthefall . Siberia was also awarded a gold record.
On May 12, 2012 Lights married Beau Bokan , lead singer of the band Blessthefall . The two had met at a concert by the Taking Back Sunday group . She gave birth to her first child on February 15, 2014.
