The 2018/19 Ligue féminine de handball was the 67th season of the top French division in women's handball and the tenth in the history of the Ligue féminine de handball (LFH). Twelve teams played for the French championship from August 29, 2018, which ended with the final playoffs on May 19, 2019.

The French champions 2019 were for the 23rd time in the club's history - and for the fourth time in a row - the team of Metz Handball ; Newcomer HBCSA Porte du Hainaut from Saint-Amand-les-Eaux in French Flanders near the Belgian border was relegated to Division 2 again.

Twelve teams initially play in a double round tournament of the regular season, also known as the basic round . The eight teams placed first qualify for the playoffs , which are played in the knockout system with a return leg up to the final. Inferior teams play the final placements in placement games.

The four last-placed teams of the regular season determine the relegated to Division 2 in another double-round tournament , with the teams starting the relegation round according to their placement with point specifications (4, 3, 2, 0 points).

In the final, OGC Nice and defending champion Metz Handball faced each other. After the first leg, which was played in the Halle des sports Charles-Ehrmann in Nice , the decision was de facto in favor of Metz after a 33:21 away win. The second leg in the Arènes de Metz on May 19, 2019 was only a matter of form: Metz Handball became French handball champions for the 23rd time.

Master Metz Handball also qualified for the group stage of the EHF Champions League 2019/20 . In addition, Brest Bretagne Handball successfully applied for an upgrade : the EHF Executive Committee gave the Breton team a wildcard entry for the Champions League on June 21, 2019 .

Due to their placement, OGC Nice and Nantes Atlantique Handball obtained the right to start the EHF Cup 2019/20 (from the 2nd qualifying round). The fifth-placed ESBF Besançon could also participate by wildcard, but had to start in round 1.
