Lily Brett (born September 5, 1946 in Feldafing ; born Lilijahne Breitstein ; also Luba Brajsztajn ) is an Australian-American writer .

Life

Lilijahne Breitstein was born in the Feldafing DP camp , a camp for displaced persons . Her parents were Jews and had survived an odyssey in various forced labor camps. They had the compulsion Lodz ghetto married, were in the concentration camp Auschwitz separated and were found after the liberation again. In 1948 the family emigrated to Australia .

Lily Brett grew up in Melbourne . At the age of 19, she began writing for a rock magazine, interviewing pop greats such as Jimi Hendrix , The Who and the Rolling Stones . After an early first marriage to an Australian rock musician, she is now married to the painter David Rankin . They live in New York with their three children .

Brett was the novel known as Simple .

In 2014 she was awarded the Prix ​​Médicis étranger for the novel Lola Bensky .
