Limburg (church district)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Limburg district is one of the 11 districts of the Limburg diocese . It is largely congruent with the Hessian district Limburg-Weilburg , in addition there is the area around Diez and Katzenelnbogen in the south , which is part of the Rhineland-Palatinate Rhein-Lahn district .

Size and location

The district is rural - small district towns are the centers. Parts of the lower Westerwald represent the north of the district. Church-wise, the district is structured very differently: on the one hand Catholic "heartland" in the "golden ground" between Limburg and Bad Camberg and in the Westerwald, on the other hand diaspora situations in Diez and Katzenelnbogen and in the region Weilburg. About 92,000 Catholics live in the district, which also includes the episcopal city of Limburg . For comparison: The diocese of Limburg with its 11 districts has a total of 669,271 Catholics (December 31, 2008 / AP2010). It consists of 15 pastoral rooms , which are divided into four deaneries.
