Linares is a city in northeast Mexico , in the east of the state of Nuevo León . Linares is the seat of the municipality of the same name and has about 63,000 inhabitants.
history
Linares was founded in 1712 as Villa de San Felipe de Linares . The name was chosen in honor of the Spanish King Philip V and the Viceroy of New Spain Fernando de Alencastre , Count of Linares.
In 1777 city rights were granted. Since the same year the city has been a Catholic bishopric , there is also a theater, the museum of local history and a reservoir.
In the 1980s and 1990s , the Geology and Forest Sciences faculties of the UANL ( Universidad Autónoma de Nuevo León , State University of the State of Nuevo León) were established in Linares with the help of GTZ. There is also a branch of the UANL Faculty of Accounting in Linares.
In October 2011, after a wave of kidnappings and extortion in the region, all police officers in the city (more than 100 in total) were arrested to investigate possible involvement in the proceedings.

Linares is known in Mexico for the local specialty glorias , a sweet.
