Linas Banys (born April 6, 1998 in Anykščiai ) is a Lithuanian biathlete .

Career

Banys started biathlon in 2007. He starts for the association Vetrunge . Banys contested his first international races as part of the IBU Junior Cup 2015/16 in Obertilliach . The two sprints there ended on position 69 and 94. This was followed by participation in the 2016 Biathlon Youth World Championships . He started there in individual, sprint and relay. At the subsequent Winter Youth Olympic Games in Lillehammer in 2016 , Banys managed to place in the top 15 with 13th place. In the following pursuer he could not improve after 7 shooting errors and was 31st. After participating in the European Junior Championships in 2016 , he took a year later participated in the 2017 European Biathlon Championships for adults and finished 18th in the mixed relay. At the 2017 World Youth Championships , his best individual position was a 36th place in the pursuit competition.  Banys made his debut in the biathlon world cup in 2018  at the beginning of the year in Oberhof. In the relay race, however, he shot the Lithuanian relay team with Tomas Kaukėnas , Vytautas Strolia and Karol Dombrovski out of the race after a penalty lap, and one in standing position. He was then lapped and taken out of the race at position 21. Linas Banys ran his first individual race in the World Cup in Antholz . In the sprint he shot four penalties and finished 103rd. At the subsequent European Junior Championships in 2016 , Banys even finished 6th after shooting without mistakes. As in the previous year, he started at the beginning of the new calendar year 2019 at the World Cups in Oberhof and Ruhpolding in sprint and relay .
