Linda Jones
Linda Jones (* 14. December 1944 in Newark , New Jersey ; † 14. March 1972 in New York City , New York ) was an American Soul - singer . Her biggest hit was Hypnotized , which reached number 4 on the Black Singles chart and number 21 on the pop charts in the United States in 1967. By 1972 she had eight hits on the black music charts, four of which also made the Hot 100. The albums Hypnotized and Your Precious Love were also successful .
Her version of the Jerry Butler classic For Your Precious Love was recorded in an almost identical version by the singer Truth Hurts for the soundtrack of the film Ali . Linda Jones was known for her particularly emotional way of singing. Like Ike and Tina Turner, she was at times under contract with the record company Loma Records.
Linda Jones died of diabetes in 1972 at the age of only 27 , which is why some sources include her in the extended club 27 .
