Linda Thompson (actress)
Linda Diane Thompson (born May 23, 1950 in Memphis , Tennessee ) is an American songwriter and actress . She is also known as Elvis Presley's first long-time friend after his separation from his wife Priscilla Presley .
Life
The 1.75 meter tall Linda Thompson grew up in her native Memphis, Tennessee, in poor circumstances, where she attended Kingsbury High School . She then studied English and Theater Studies at Memphis State University .
After winning a beauty pageant in 1972, she began her career as a film actress and has appeared in television series such as Starsky & Hutch , Vegas , A Colt Just In Case , Trio With Four Fists, and Beverly Hills, 90210 . From the late 1980s, the focus of her work shifted to the songwriter and she wrote a number of movie songs, including I Have Nothing , which was sung in the film Bodyguard by Whitney Houston and was nominated for an Oscar in 1993 .
Private
After winning the Miss Tennessee Universe beauty pageant in 1972 , she met Elvis Presley on July 6 of the same year and had a relationship with him for almost four and a half years before they separated in late 1976 because of his numerous affairs and especially the new relationship with Ginger Alden .
In 1981 Thompson married the decathlete Bruce Jenner , who won the gold medal at the 1976 Olympics . She has two sons with him, Brody and Brandon Jenner. She separated from him in 1985 after he had told her that he wanted to undergo gender reassignment as a woman.
After separating from today's Caitlyn Jenner , she met the composer David Foster , with whom she began a fruitful collaboration as a songwriter. She was married to him from 1991 to 2005.
In 2016 she published her autobiography , A Little Thing Called Life .
Today Linda Thompson lives in her adopted home Malibu , California .
