Lis Kleeberg , née Lis Kühne (born August 27, 1916 in Leipzig ; † February 19, 2019 there ), was a German writer .

Life

She was born in 1916 as the daughter of a shaper under the name Lis Kühne in Leipzig. After obtaining secondary school leaving certificate , she was trained as a production clerk and found work in a company in the textile industry as a calculator and as a draftsman. Kleeberg then worked as a department secretary in the supply office for mechanical engineering products in Leipzig.

Her first attempts at writing, which only took place at the advanced age of 55, came from participating in a literary competition in 1971. Your text received an award , which gave the impetus to continue writing. In 1972 Kleeberg started her own business as a freelance writer and became the artistic director of the circle of writing workers at the Deutsche Reichsbahn . During these years she worked for various newspapers and magazines. Kleeberg's debut novel Narrow Sun was published in 1975, was out of print shortly afterwards and had several editions. She also processed her successful novel as a radio play for young people under the title Love and Guilt by Jana W. In 1987, her second novel The Other Life was published , which also achieved a large circulation.

After the fall of the Wall , Kleeberg continued to be involved in the cultural sector of her hometown, so in 1990 she was a founding member of the Free Literature Society, the Leipzig Literature Office and the Association for the Promotion of the Leipzig City Library . On her 85th birthday, her most personal book with an autobiographical background, the novel Gone , was published, which was also translated into English. In addition to this third major work, she only published smaller literary contributions in magazines such as the Ostragehege .

Lis Kleeberg died on February 19, 2019 in her hometown. The Leipzig City Library held a commemorative reading in her honor on April 26, 2019.
