Lisa Lu ( Chinese  盧燕 , Pinyin Lú Yàn ; born July 8, 1927 in Beijing ) is an American actress of Chinese origin. She is a three-time winner of the Golden Horse Award , one of the most important Chinese-language film awards.

Life

Lisa Lu was born in Beijing in 1927. She began her career as a teenager performing at the Kunqu before moving to the United States with her husband in the early 1950s . It was there that Lu began a career as a television actress. She has had recurring roles as Miss Mandarin in the western series Yancy Derringer and as Hey Girl in Have Gun - Will Travel . She has also made guest appearances on series such as Bonanza , Big Valley , Cobra, Take Over , Hawaiian Eye, and Männerwirtschaft . After her arrival in Hollywood, Lu campaigned for the distribution and recognition of foreign film productions, especially from China, and became a member of the Academy of Cinematic Arts (as the only person of Asian origin at the time) .

1960 Lisa Lu took over the lead female role in the anti-war film The Mountain Road on the side of James Stewart . This was followed by other leading roles in American and Chinese film productions, including 1977 in The Devil's Saat . For her acting achievements, she received a total of three Golden Horse Awards for best leading and supporting actress in 1971, 1973 and 1975. Her other awards include the Snow Leopard Lifetime Achievement Award at the 4th Annual Asian World Film Festival for her life's work in 2018 .

In addition to her acting career, Lisa Lu also worked as a spokesperson for documentaries. Among other things, she could be heard in the 1982 film Sewing Woman , which received an Oscar nomination for Best Documentary Short Film . In addition, Lu continued to appear in the Chinese theater and opera pieces.

One of the most famous appearances in her later film career is the role of Cixi in The Last Emperor in 1987. In the following year, Lu played the role of Ah Tam in the multi-part television series Noble House with Pierce Brosnan in the lead role. In 2009 she was seen as grandmother Sonam in the disaster film 2012 . 2011 to 2015 Lu played the role of Mrs. Yi in a total of seven episodes of the hospital series General Hospital . She then officially withdrew from the film business at the age of 88. In 2018, however, Lu was seen again in a movie with a role in the fantasy drama An Impossibly Small Object . In the same year followed a role in the romantic comedy Crazy Rich . Since then she has been active again as an actress.
