Lisa Nemzo (born January 12, 1952 in Newport , Rhode Island ) is an American musician , singer and songwriter .

life and work

Born in 1952 and raised in Newport , Rhode Island , Lisa Nemzo attended Middletown High School as a teenager in the small town of Middletown in New Castle County, Delaware , where she graduated in 1970. When her parents separated, she moved to Los Angeles and studied music there. Lisa Nemzo learned guitar, singing and keyboard professionally. On the side she started to write her own songs and earn money as a session and studio musician. As a rock musician, she became so well known in the music business that in the early 1980s she accompanied well-known musicians such as Bonnie Raitt , Christopher Cross and Joe Cocker on their tours. With the rock band Firefall from Colorado , she placed herself as a guest singer in 1981 with the single Staying with It (at # 37 in the American charts). With bands like Hall & Oates or the rock group Heart , which she had known since the late 1970s, she toured across the United States in the following years.

In 1985, in Los Angeles, she recorded her first own album entitled Tough Girls Can Be Pretty . The European record company Metronome Records signed them and the German music producer Michael Holm put the finishing touches on in the Munich Rainbow Studios .

Michael Holm was also involved as executive producer on her second album Out Of Desire in 1986. The album was produced by Derek Nakamoto, Peter White and Lisa Nemzo. The single Walking on Ice was presented in the ARD show Extratour , moderated by Margarethe Schreinemakers . The song became a radio hit in Germany and made it to the compilations Sampler Musikladen Eurotops by Polystar in 1986 .

In 1987 Lisa Nemzo's third album Angel followed on Metronome Records , but with the released single I Don't Wanna Fool With Love , the high expectations of chart placements in Germany were no longer possible.

After her successes in Germany and Europe in the mid to late 1980s, Lisa Nemzo returned to the United States in the early 1990s. She lived in Los Angeles and Van Nuys , composed music for film documentaries in California or played on their albums with musician friends. In 2000 she released the album Restless Soul . In 2008 she founded her own record label called Dream Wild Records .

She dedicated the album Unlock my heart , released in 2009, to her mother Tama Sperling (1926–2003).

In 2012 the song Arlington was written in memory of a soldier who lost his life in the Iraq war.

Today the musician lives in Marina del Rey, California . Lisa Nemzo regularly plays her own concerts in the USA or goes on tour with bands she is friends with.
