List of ancient historians at the universities in Hamburg

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of ancient historians in Hamburg includes all university professors who taught or teach the subject of Ancient History at the University of Hamburg and the Helmut Schmidt University / University of the Federal Armed Forces Hamburg . This normally includes all regular university professors who were allowed to give lectures, i.e. who had completed their habilitation . In particular, these are full professors , non-scheduled professors , junior professors , guest professors , honorary professors , chair representatives and private lecturers . Middle class historians (lecturers:Assistants and employees ) are only taken into account in justified exceptional cases (e.g. as academic advisors for life).

The University of Hamburg was founded in 1919, and since then there has also been a chair for ancient history. In 1949 an associate professor was also appointed. A second chair was established in 1962, a third professorship in 1978 and a fourth in 1982. After several professors left, the professorship positions were reduced to two by 2005. At the University of the Federal Armed Forces, which was founded in 1971, there has been a master’s degree since 1990. However, the chair for ancient history was only established later. This means that there are currently three professorships in ancient history in Hamburg.

The first column shows the name of the person and their life data, the second column shows the entry into the universities, and the third column shows the departure. Column four names the highest position achieved at the respective university. At other universities, the corresponding lecturer may have made an even more extensive scientific career. The next column lists special features, the career path or other information relating to the university or institute. The last column shows pictures of the lecturers, which is currently difficult due to the image rights.
