Erich Ziebarth
Erich Gustav Ludwig Ziebarth (born December 31, 1868 in Frankfurt (Oder) , † October 21, 1944 in Dettelbach ) was a German ancient historian .
Life
Ziebarth was a teacher at the Wilhelm-Gymnasium in Hamburg from April 1, 1900 to March 30, 1919, and in 1919, when the University of Hamburg was founded, he became the first holder of the chair for ancient history. He held this professorship until his retirement in 1936. In November 1933 he signed the declaration of the German professors to Adolf Hitler . After the air raids on Hamburg , he moved to Dettelbach am Main , where he died a year later.
In his research he mainly dealt with the Greek school system and associations, the history of trade and economy and Greek epigraphy . He published numerous articles on this in the annual reports of the Wilhelm Gymnasium and in the Hellas yearbook of the German-Greek Society. His preoccupation with modern Greece was shaped by nationalism.
During his studies he became a member of the StMV Blue Singers Göttingen .
