history
Central Station
The oldest and by far the most important train station in Münster is the Hauptbahnhof, which is one of the most important junctions in the Westphalian railway network.
Further train stations and stops
In addition to the main train station, there was also the Münster Ost train station until the end of the Second World War, where the railway line from Neubeckum ended. This was at the beginning of Albersloher Weg, at the corner of Hafenstrasse, and was destroyed in the war and then replaced by a connection to the main train station; Today there is a parking lot at the former location, but a freight station still exists under the same name, in the case of which a stop called Halle Münsterland is planned in the event that passenger traffic is resumed . Otherwise there were the stops Kinderhaus, Geist (not to be confused with the still existing depot) and Preußenstadion, which have long been abandoned. The Kanal and Geist (Bf.) Train stations have always served purely operational tasks and not for passenger traffic. This also applied to the Nevinghoff station, which has also been used for passenger traffic since 1995 under the name of Münster-Zentrum Nord.
With the extensive incorporation of 1975 , a large number of other train stations and stops came to the city of Münster, but these are typical village train stations. Those operating points that were still used to hold passenger trains were given the prefix 'Münster-' in 2004 , which was also later reactivated stations. In the course of the intended reactivation of the WLE line , an additional Münster-Loddenheide station is planned.
Freight transport
Actual rail freight transport in the form of service with loaded freight wagons no longer exists in Münster. The station Part freight station to the main station, like the Ostbahnhof the Westphalian State Railway only for the operation of railway sidings admitted. After the Westfalen AG plant in Gremmendorf was relocated to a new location without a railroad on the Dortmund-Ems Canal , the last siding in Münster that was actually only served by empty wagons was that of the private car workshop Fahrzeugbau Kiffe .
List of all train stations and stops
The table below gives an overview of the former and current train stations and stops in today's urban area. For the lines stopping at the station, only those that stop regularly are indicated; at rush hours and on the edge of the day, individual trains on other lines sometimes stop.
