Ensembles

Old town Graefenberg

The ensemble ( location ) includes the former walled core town of Graefenberg. The place, first mentioned in a document in 1172, located on a slope above the Schwabach valley, developed at the intersection of three old streets leading from Nuremberg, Bayreuth and Egloffstein, which was secured by a defunct castle (between the street Am Gesteiger and Bahnhofstraße): east of these, the town parish church , which is essentially high medieval, illustrates a second nucleus of the development of the town. In 1333 the noble landlords obtained market rights, and in 1371 from Charles IV also city rights; In the following period the market square was laid out according to plan and the city was fortified by a curtain wall. The northern part of the essentially rectangular urban area is filled exclusively by the longitudinally rectangular market square, a street market, and its adjacent parcels. The square is enclosed, two rows of gable and eaves town houses, mostly plastered buildings with gable roofs and dating from the 16th to 18th centuries, face each other. The narrow north side is closed off by the Egloffsteiner Tor and the town hall, which is advancing from the escape route. In the middle of the square, the old town hall stood free-standing until 1870. The streets of Bayreuth and Nuremberg run from the east and west into the southern narrow side, which is dominated by the so-called Wolfsberg Castle, the former also closed with town houses, mostly built from the 16th to 18th centuries and through a gate, the Hilpoltsteiner, Blocked off street, the latter a short, winding street (Bahnhofstraße) adapted to the terrain, which was closed at the height of Bahnhofstraße 4 by the Nürnberger Tor until the 19th century. The southern half of the city, partly located on the slope, shows the oldest beginnings of Graefenberg in the irregularity of the floor plan. It is dominated by the parish church, which is loosely surrounded by the school house, pharmacy, old rectory and is shielded from the market square by the southern row of houses on Bayreuther Straße. To the west of the church, the care palace manifests the rule of the city, which the imperial city of Nuremberg has exercised since 1540. In the steep, south-sloping alleyway Am Gesteiger, which is closed by the valley gate, the south-north direction of the market square is recorded again and its regular development, mostly with smaller houses from the 16th to 18th centuries, is repeated. In this area remains of the city walls and the moat have been preserved. File number: E-4-74-132-1.

Scheunenviertel Egloffsteiner Strasse

Scheunenviertel ( Lage ), located on the slope , with loosely staggered barns from the 17th to 19th centuries, which served as storage and storage buildings for the citizens and were not located in the city center for reasons of fire protection. File number: E-4-74-132-2.

Remarks

  1. This list may not correspond to the current status of the official list of monuments. The latter can be viewed on the Internet as a PDF using the link given under web links and is also mapped in the Bavarian Monument Atlas . Even these representations, although they are updated daily by the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation , do not always and everywhere reflect the current status. Therefore, the presence or absence of an object in this list or in the Bavarian Monument Atlas does not guarantee that it is currently a registered monument or not. The Bavarian List of Monuments is also an information directory. The property of a monument - and thus the legal protection - is defined in Art. 1 of the Bavarian Monument Protection Act (BayDSchG) and does not depend on the mapping in the Monument Atlas and the entry in the Bavarian Monument List. Objects that are not listed in the Bavarian Monument List can also be monuments if they meet the criteria according to Art. 1 BayDSchG. Early involvement of the Bavarian State Office for Monument Preservation according to Art. 6 BayDSchG is therefore necessary in all projects.
