Courtyard | Immerath Jackerather Strasse 8 map |
Two-storey, 5-axis-wide brick building with a gable roof (see attachment)
Representation of the main characteristic feature of the monument According to a date in the Torkeilstein, the Krapoll farm complex was built in 1869. The farm itself, however, is older and was previously owned by the Schillings family. Conrad Krapoll, later Mayor of Immerath, married into the Schillings family at the end of the 18th century and was registered as the owner of the farm in 1823. The Krapoll family is probably the most important family in Immerath's recent history, with a presence that extends far beyond the town. She presented u. a. from 1809 to 1933 (with a short break 1827–30) the mayor of the community. The owner of the traditional courtyard, Hermann Josef Krapoll, mayor 1831–1877, also became a member of the Prussian state parliament in 1855. Wilhelm Krapoll was last honorary mayor of Immerath from 1910–33. The house was named after him after it was acquired in 1965 by the then independent municipality of Immerath in memory of the families. After destruction in the Second World War and later demolitions, the stately home of the 19th century courtyard, the gatehouse on the left with a passage and a rear, but heavily modified, former stable wing have been preserved. The back garden was redesigned to a public green area. A kindergarten has been set up in the house since the 1980s. The necessary renovation was carried out in coordination with the preservation authorities. The residential building extends as a two-storey, five-axis-wide and eaves brick building with a saddle brook directly along Jackerather Strasse. The outer, slightly wider axes are preferred as flat risalits and are emphasized on the upper floor by double windows; in the right axis is the entrance to the house with its natural stone walls. The large rectangular windows also have slightly profiled natural stone frames. Thin storey and sill cornices separate the two storeys; There is also a mezzanine with small square openings above the upper floor. The shape and proportions are the same on the sides and back, but the windows are more simple without framing and with arches; to the rear only the entrance axis with the stairwell is highlighted. Through the old two-winged front door with a large skylight one enters a straight hallway, which is laid out with ornamental tiles and which is covered by a stuccoed ceiling. The interior is accessed through a central corridor; old room doors and flow-dividing doors with semicircular skylights on the upper floor have been preserved. What is particularly noteworthy is the original staircase on the garden side of the entrance hall, straight in the opposite direction, with a turning platform and with candelabra-shaped beginners' posts and turned balusters. On the upper floor there is a wall niche with a figure of Mary on a console. Also essential for the historical street scene, as a relic and symbol of the former courtyard, is the adjoining single-storey wing with a passage to the courtyard behind. The gate opening is framed by wall pillars, covered by a segment arch and shows an artfully brick ceiling in the form of a diamond in the passage. The rear wing of the stable has been heavily modified and is no longer a listed building, as is the younger single-storey extension to the left of the house. The house in particular is a comparatively stately building that testifies to the wealth and importance of its builders. This applies to the well-proportioned exterior as well as to the interior with its generous room layouts and the aforementioned historical furnishings. The adjoining wing with a passage completes the street side of a courtyard. Both parts of the building are essentially well preserved and therefore represent a clear testimony to the rural and bourgeois building and living culture of the 19th century. As the long-standing residence of the Krapoll family, which was of great historical importance for Immerath, the former district of Erkelenz and beyond, the former farm complex Jackerather Straße 8 in Immerath is important for Erkelenz. There is a public interest in the preservation and use for scientific reasons, in particular for the reasons of the local and architectural history described. |
