Catholic Parish Church of Christ the King | Klein-Erkenschwicker-Strasse 122 map |
Clearly structured expressionist church building with plastered outer walls and green-colored sandstone accents, built according to plans by the Gelsenkirchen architect Josef Franke . Particularly characteristic are the church tower, which is located to the south-west of the main building and whose west side is rounded off in a semicircle, as well as the portal with two entrance doors and the expressionist statues of the four evangelists enthroned above . Inside there is, among other things, a wooden Pietà by Franz Guntermann and a ceramic sculpture depicting the Madonna and Child Jesus by Hans Dinnendahl, both works from the early modern period. Wilhelm Schmitz-Steinkrüger created the church window around 1947. | 1929 | Jan 25, 1984 | 1
