List of Dajō Daijin

List of the Japanese Dajō Daijin (“Grand Chancellor” in the Ritsuryō administrative system).

The office is often referred to as Daijō Daijin . It was often unoccupied when no person “worthy” enough served at court. Since the Heian period , practically all incumbents came from the Fujiwara family or their go-sekke branches. The titleholders received the real second upper court rank , but mostly the first following rank:

Nara period (701-794)

  • 705-715 Hozumi-shinnō ( 穂 積 親王 ) (? -715) - Chi-Daijō-kanji ( 知 太 政 官事 )
  • 720-735 Toneri-shinnō ( 舎 人 親王 ) (676-735) - Chi-Daijō-kanji ( 知 太 政 官事 )
  • 737-745 Suzuka-shinnō ( 鈴鹿 王 ) (? -745) - Chi-Daijō-kanji ( 知 太 政 官事 )
  • 760-764 Emi no Oshikatsu ( 恵 美 押 勝 ) (= Fujiwara no Nakamaro ) ( 藤原 仲 麻 呂 ) (706-764) * 765-766 Dōkyō ( 道 鏡 ) (700? -772)
