List of railway tunnels in Berlin
The development of the Berlin railway tunnel began with the first experimental projects for an underground railway at the end of the 19th century. Most of the Berlin tunnels are part of urban public transport. The railway administrations only built very short tunnels at level junctions. The first longer railway tunnel was the north-south tunnel of the S-Bahn , which opened in 1936 and 1939 . After reunification, the north-south long-distance railway tunnel was put into operation in 2006, and in 2012 the S-Bahn and long-distance train tunnels at the Berlin Brandenburg Airport train station went into operation without passenger transport, which is already on Brandenburg territory. The construction of a new north-south tunnel for the S-Bahn (planning name S21 ) is planned for the next few decades . In 2014, construction began on the first section of the S21 from the Nordring to the new tunnel platform under Berlin Central Station.
List of tunnels
The list summarizes the railway tunnels in Berlin in a table. A tunnel at the Berlin Brandenburg Airport train station , which is already in Brandenburg, is also listed. The list is sorted chronologically according to the opening year.
