The Natural Color System is based on the perceived pure colors yellow (Y), red (R), blue (B) and green (G). All other colors are derived from these as well as from the achromatic colors black and white.

Aemilius Müller

Here by serving as a basis Aemilius Müller or in the Natural Color System used by most people as a purely perceived primary colors green (colors) (Central) yellow (medium) red, (center) and blue (medium). The chosen division and sequence of colors is independent of whether the mixture is mixed subtractively ( i.e. body color ) or additively ( i.e. light color ). Terms such as red , yellow , green , blue , brown , which are frequently used as superordinate color names, do not appear in the list because they cannot be assigned a fixed area on the color wheel . In addition, brown would be a dark orange, so not an unclouded color . Likewise, there is no need to display the achromatic colors in the color wheel. The color wheel lacks the third dimension, which Graßmann says is needed to arrange all imaginable colors. Historically, it was important to form this color wheel before it was possible to abstract a third component in brightness at the beginning of the 20th century .

Mixing levels:

1. Primary color : cannot be mixed from two other colors
2. Secondary color: can be mixed from two primary colors
3. Tertiary color: can be mixed from three primary colors - always corresponds to a tinted primary or secondary color

The colors shown in this article are not binding and may appear different on different display devices.
One possibility to approximately calibrate the display with purely visual means is offered by the adjacent test image (only with native display resolution and when the page is not displayed zoomed):

Set the display device to sRGB mode, if available. If a letter (“R” for red, “G” for green or “B” for blue) appears strongly on one or more of the three gray areas, the gamma correction of the corresponding color channel should be corrected. sRGB corresponds to a gamma value of 2.2, which is the common value for TVs and computers with Windows or macOS (from version 10.6).
