List of the Counts of Poitou
The list of the Counts of Poitou lists the owners of the rulership of the medieval French feudal territory Poitou .
The Poitou was one of the most important provinces of Aquitaine and was the main domain of the medieval dukes of Aquitaine . After the Duchy of Aquitaine was effectively dissolved in 1224, the Poitou was included in the royal domain and given to various royal princes as appanage .
The incumbents also called themselves Counts of Poitiers after the capital of Poitou .
