The skyscrapers over time

As in many American cities, churches with their towers were the tallest buildings in Boston in the beginning . In Boston, the Ames Building, completed in 1893, is commonly considered to be the first skyscraper built. However, since this 13-story skyscraper did not tower over the tower of the Church of the Covenant , the Ames Building was never the tallest structure in the city. The first skyscraper to be inaugurated as the tallest skyscraper in the city of Boston at the time was the Custom House Tower, completed in 1915 .
