List of cultural monuments in Pohlheim

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Distinctive emblem for cultural property.svg
Coat of arms Pohlheim.png

The following list contains the cultural monuments identified in the monument topography in the area of the city of Pohlheim , district of Gießen , Hesse .

Note: The order of the monuments in this list is based first on the districts and then on the address, alternatively it can also be sorted according to the name, the number assigned by the State Office for Monument Preservation or the construction time.

The basis is the publication of the Hessian list of monuments, which was created for the first time on the basis of the Monument Protection Act of September 5, 1986 and has been continuously updated since then.

The presence or absence of an object in this list does not provide legally binding information as to whether it is a cultural monument or not: This list may not reflect the current status of the official monument topography. This is available for Hessen in the corresponding volumes of the monument topography of the Federal Republic of Germany and on the Internet under DenkXweb - Kulturdenkmäler in Hessen (under construction). Even though these sources are updated by the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments in Hesse , they are not always up-to-date because there are always changes in the inventory of monuments.

Only the State Office for the Preservation of Monuments in Hesse can provide binding information .

limes

Pohlheim coat of arms with Limes watchtower

The Upper German-Rhaetian Limes in Hesse after Denkmalschutzgesetz an archaeological monument and since 2005 a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The name "Pohlheim", which was revived in 1971, goes back to a Franconian village in the current area of the city mentioned in 793 in the Lorsch Codex as "Falheimer marca" but ended in the Middle Ages. The name of the village, (P) fahlheim, referred directly to the Limes (pile ditch). A part of the Limes, the Wetterau Limes , runs approx. 8 km through the Pohlheim district. The Roman watchtowers Wp 4/45 to Wp 4 / 54a and two small forts are located along the Limes. The Limes section running from Butzbach over 8.5 km in a straight line from southwest to northeast forms the boundary between Langgöns and Pohlheim before it reaches the Pohlheim area. The small fort in Holzheimer Unterwald on the boundary of the district was partially reconstructed and preserved in 1995. The so-called barbarian stone, a Limes memorial stone, has stood further to the northeast at tower Wp 4/49 since 1912 . In the immediate vicinity of the tower, a Roman watchtower was reconstructed in 1967; the tower has been part of the Pohlheim city coat of arms since 1975. The small fort Hainhaus , located at the northernmost bulge of the Wetterau Limes, is now partially overbuilt by a farm (Limeshof). From there the Limes continues in an easterly and then in a south-easterly direction before it reaches the Lich district. The pile ditch in Pohlheim is still well preserved in the wooded area to the west and east, but is not visible under arable land at the northern tip of the Wetterau Limes near the Limeshof.
