Evangelical Jakobskirche (totality) | Wettersteinstrasse 17 (cf. 20057) | 13th century, 1744 (extension) | The Lutheran Church of St. James is essentially late Romanesque, the nave 1744–45 by Johann Heinrich Arnold, extended in 1984/85. With quarry stone wall and arched gate to the cemetery, 19th century, memorial for fallen soldiers 1870/71, tombs.
The church in Wolfartsweier was not always called "Jakobskirche". In a deed of purchase from 1488 the name “St. Margaretha ". This village church is dated to the 13th century, but an exact year of construction is missing. When Baden-Durlach became Protestant in 1556, the name of Saint Margaretha also disappeared from the files. Why it is called the Jakobskirche is unclear. The congregation expanded its church twice. In 1744 the nave was extended by a window unit to the west, and in 1985 a western porch was added to the nave and the interior was also widened to the north. The east facing was abandoned and the church stalls were arranged like a central building around the altar now set up on the north wall.
