The list of natural monuments in the Ennepe-Ruhr district is divided into:

According to Section 28 of the Federal Nature Conservation Act (BNatschG), natural monuments are legally binding individual creations of nature or corresponding areas of up to five hectares that require special protection

  1. for scientific, natural history or cultural reasons or
  2. because of their rarity, peculiarity or beauty.

The removal of the natural monument and all actions that could lead to the destruction, damage or alteration of the natural monument are prohibited in accordance with the more detailed provisions.

For the area of ​​the Ennepe-Ruhr district, four landscape plans were drawn up in accordance with Section 16, Paragraph 3 of the Landscape Act (LG), which cover the entire district:

  1. Landscape plan for Witten, Wetter, Herdecke (legally valid since November 25, 1984)
  2. Landscape plan for Breckerfeld (legally valid since June 1, 1990)
  3. Landscape plan for Hattingen and Sprockhövel (legally valid since August 15, 1998)
