The list of natural monuments in Gelsenkirchen contains the natural monuments from the landscape plan and the provisional natural monuments ordinance of 2018. The latter was drafted because the natural monuments were last defined several years ago. Some of the objects specified in the landscape plan from 2000 that is still valid today and the natural monuments ordinance of 2001 no longer exist today. The old trees had to be felled over the past few years due to disease and storm damage.

Trees and boulders are listed that are important for scientific, natural history and regional reasons or that impress with their rarity, uniqueness and beauty. There are a total of 46 natural monuments in Gelsenkirchen.

It was once a court stone in the shadow of the village linden of Ückendorf (today: Ückendorfer Platz). Farmers' dishes were held on the “Burbrink” or “Tie” well into the 18th century. According to a legend, a giant who lived on the Tippelsberg in Bochum threw the stone there. When the village lanes and the village square were expanded to a traffic junction in the middle of the 19th century, the "Lindenstein" got a new place at the old office building in the Ziegelstrasse. Later it was placed in its current location by Carl von Wedelstaedt when the park was laid out.

The preliminary natural monument ordinance was published in November 2018. It contains natural monuments in the built-up urban area of ​​Gelsenkirchen. Some new trees were set as natural monuments in it. Preserved natural monuments from the 2001 ordinance have been given a new number.
