List of Swiss ambassadors in Austria .

When the modern federal state of Switzerland was founded in 1848, the embassies in Paris and Vienna were taken over from the Swiss Confederation (1813–1848). Until 1866 the embassy in Vienna was headed by an ai chargé d' affaires. From 1866 the heads of mission carried the title of Swiss envoy.

From 1848 to 1918 the head of mission in Vienna was responsible for all of Austria-Hungary. After the break-up of Austria-Hungary in 1918 , he was only responsible for Austria, although he was also accredited in Hungary between 1920 and 1938. Between 1938 and 1946, when the federal state of Austria was incorporated into the National Socialist German Reich , the embassy was converted into a consulate general during this time. After 1946 an embassy was again established in Vienna, which was finally converted into an embassy in 1957.

Between 1995 and 1996 the head of mission was also accredited to Bosnia-Herzegovina, between 1997 and 1999 in Slovakia and between 1990 and 2001 also to the Holy See.
