List of stumbling blocks in Burgdorf

The list of stumbling blocks in Burgdorf contains all the stumbling blocks that were laid by Gunter Demnig in Burgdorf as part of the art project of the same name . They are intended to commemorate the victims of National Socialism who lived and worked in Burgdorf. Since it was first laid in August 2006, a total of 22 stumbling blocks have been laid.

Seewald Siegfried Goldschmidt was born November 2, 1880 in Burgdorf. On October 14, 1939, he fled to Belgium , then on August 4, 1942, he was deported from the SS assembly camp in Mechelen to the Auschwitz extermination camp and later declared dead.

Hermann Cohn was born in Burgdorf on September 12, 1882. He was imprisoned in Sachsenhausen concentration camp until December 14, 1938 , and was deported from Hamburg on December 6, 1941 to the Riga-Jungfernhof camp.

Henri Steinberg was born on September 2, 1885 in Burgdorf and lived in Hamburg. From there he was deported to the Litzmannstadt ( Lódz ) ghetto on October 25, 1941 , and died there on September 6, 1942. Henri Steinberg was the son of Jenny Steinberg. A stumbling block was also laid for him in Hamburg.

Jenny Steinberg was born Jenny Baruch on October 7, 1855 in Hamburg . She was married to Salomon Steinberg since 1882, lived with him in Burgdorf and had a son, Henry. Her husband died in 1924. Most recently she lived in Julius Cohn's house on Uetzer Strasse. On January 18, 1941, there is said to have been a suicide attempt there, as a result of which Jenny Steinberg was taken to the Israelite hospital in Hanover. She died there the same day. Presumably on that day she received her deportation notice.

Clara Palmbaum was born as Clara Moosberg in Burgdorf on August 3, 1896. In 1921 she married the merchant Julius Palmbaum in Burgdorf and lived with him in Hildesheim , the marriage resulted in their son Kurt in 1924. From 26./27. On March 1st, 1942, she was imprisoned in the Hanover-Ahlem assembly camp and was deported from there on March 31, 1942 to the Warsaw Ghetto. She died in 1943 while the Warsaw Ghetto uprising was being crushed .

Gustav Italiener was born on September 23, 1884 in the rabbi's apartment at Poststrasse 2 in Burgdorf. He was Italian born with Friederike. Heimann married and lived with her and their sons Gerard and Henri in Hamburg. In 1939 he fled to France via Belgium. On September 4, 1942, he and his family were deported from the Drancy assembly camp to the Auschwitz extermination camp.

Henriette Gumperz was born Henriette Fels on October 29, 1857 in Einbeck . Since 1879 she lived with her husband Bernhard Gumperz in Burgdorf, the marriage resulted in three children. Her husband died in 1910 and she moved to live with her son in Düsseldorf in 1933. In 1939 she fled to the Netherlands. From November 18, 1942 she was imprisoned in the Westerbork transit camp and was deported from there on November 24, 1942 to the Auschwitz extermination camp, where she was murdered on arrival on November 27, 1942.
