List of stumbling blocks in Neuenhaus

The list of stumbling blocks in Neuenhaus contains all the stumbling blocks that were laid by Gunter Demnig in Neuenhaus as part of the art project of the same name . They are intended to commemorate the victims of National Socialism who lived and worked in Neuenhaus. In two relocations since November 2011, a total of 25 stumbling blocks were laid. (As of June 2019)

Julius Frank was born on August 26, 1884 in Neuenhaus. He was married to Selma Frank. In November 1938 he fled to the Netherlands and after his arrest was interned in the Westerbork assembly camp until August 10, 1942 . From there took place on 10 August 1942 his deportation to the Auschwitz death camp , where he was murdered on September 30 1,942th He was later pronounced dead.

Selma Frank was born as Selma Hurwitz in Levern on August 21, 1896 . She was married to Julius Frank and had a son. On December 13, 1941, she was deported to the Riga ghetto .

Günther Frank was born on October 27, 1927 as the son of Julius and Selma Frank in Osnabrück . He lived in Neuenhaus and from April 1939 in the Israelite Horticultural School in Ahlem. He was deported to the Riga ghetto on December 13, 1941, to the Stutthof concentration camp on August 9, 1944, and to the Auschwitz concentration camp on September 10, 1944 .

She was imprisoned in Vught-Hertogenbosch concentration camp until May 9, 1943 and then transported to the Westerbork assembly camp. From there she was deported to the Sobibor extermination camp on May 11, 1943, where she was murdered on May 14, 1943. She was later pronounced dead.

Emma Salomons was born Emma Frankenhuis in Oldenzaal in the Netherlands on August 30, 1876 . She was married to Aron Salomons and lived in Neuenhaus. On January 17, 1939, she fled to the Netherlands. From April 9, 1943 to August 13, 1943 she was imprisoned in the Vught-Hertogenbosch concentration camp and then transported to the Westerbork assembly camp, from where she was deported to the Auschwitz extermination camp on August 24, 1943. On arrival on August 27, 1943, she was murdered there and later pronounced dead.

Siegfried Süskind was born in 1929 to Julius and Emilje Süskind. From February 1936 to November 1938 he lived with his grandfather, uncle and aunt in Neuenhaus. In 1938 he managed to escape to the Netherlands and survived in hiding. Siegfried Süskind died on June 18, 1985 in Frankfurt / Main. In Nordhorn , three stumbling blocks were also laid for his family.

Johann van Coevorden was born on October 30, 1877 in Emlichheim. He had been married to Caroline van Coevorden since 1913 and had four children. In 1935 he fled to Enschede in the Netherlands and died there on June 30, 1941. He was buried in the Jewish cemetery in Enschede.

Caroline van Coevorden was born Caroline Serphos in Neuenhaus on June 5, 1888. She had been married to Johann van Coevorden since 1913 and had four children. She fled with her family to the Netherlands, but was deported from the Westerbork assembly camp to the Sobibor extermination camp on May 25, 1943, where she was murdered on May 28, 1943.

Sophia Serphos was born on June 12, 1891 in Neuenhaus. She was a Dutch citizen and was mentally disabled. After her mother's death, she was placed in the Telgte sanatorium ( St. Rochus Hospital ) from 1924 and on January 7, 1941, she was transferred to the Rijks Krankzinnigen Gesticht De Grote Beek in Eindhoven , a sanatorium in the Netherlands. From March 14, 1944, she was interned in the Westerbork assembly camp and on March 23, 1944 she was deported to the Auschwitz extermination camp, where she was murdered on arrival on March 26, 1944.
