List of Acting Senators of Canada
The List of Acting Senators of Canada shows everyone who currently serves in the Canadian Senate .
The Senate has 105 members. Unlike the deputies of the lower house , the senators are not elected but appointed. This is done by the Governor General , on the recommendation of the Prime Minister . Originally, senators were appointed for life. Since the British North America Act of 1965, they are only allowed to serve until they have reached the age of 75.
According to the Canadian Constitution , each province and territory has a certain number of senators. The constitution divides the country into four regions, each with 24 senators: the maritime provinces (ten each for Nova Scotia and New Brunswick , four for Prince Edward Island ), western Canada (six each for Manitoba , British Columbia , Saskatchewan and Alberta ), Ontario and Quebec . Newfoundland and Labrador , which has six senators, do not belong to any of these regions . Northwest Territories , Yukon and Nunavut send one senator each .

Remarks:
- ↑ Québec is the only province with Senate divisions that are prescribed by the constitution. In all other provinces, a division is merely an optional designation that the senator can choose himself and that has no constitutional or legal significance. A senator who does not elect a particular Senate division is considered to represent the province as a whole.
- ↑ Harder is the Chairman of the Government Representative in the Senate .
