The ruins (elongated wall remains measuring approx. 32 × 12 meters and approx. 7 meters high), which is located on a narrow rock spur above Stall, goes back to 10/11. Century back and has a Gothic and Renaissance building stock. It was first owned by the diocese of Freising, followed by the archbishopric of Salzburg as landlord during the 12th century. In 1278 the Stall Castle was destroyed together with the neighboring Rangsburg in a dispute between Salzburg and the Count of Gorizia, but was rebuilt. After a fire in 1353, it was renewed again and became the seat of the Salzburg Ministerial. The year 1632 sees Christoph von Mohre zu Sonnegg and Mohrburg as the last keeper of the castle. Described as dilapidated as early as 1670, the castle collapsed in 1731 after a long rainy season.

The west wall and the south-western polygonal wall with a large arched window (16th century) have been preserved, as is the transverse wall with a pointed arched portal (14th / 15th century).
