List of the longest runways
The length of runways depends on:
- the type / purpose of the airfield : A military airfield for testing new types of aircraft requires longer runways than a small glider airfield .
- The status of the airfield: The length of the runways is measured according to the type of air traffic that arises: If it is an intercontinental airport where aircraft with a large take-off weight land, the minimum length is 3,600 to 4,000 meters.
- the location of the airfield: The respective altitude and the temperatures there cause different air pressures . The lower the air pressure, the lower the lift , the more off run require aircraft to be able to achieve the resulting changes to higher take-off.
