Embassy of the Russian Federation, Tirana

The list of Soviet and Russian ambassadors in Albania contains all heads of the diplomatic mission of Moscow in Tirana since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1924 until today.

history

Arkady A. Krakovetsky was to become envoy in Tirana in 1924.

After the Albanian government under Fan Noli had recognized the Soviet Union in July 1924 and announced that it wanted to establish relations, Georgi Vasilyevich Chicherin sent a delegation with the future ambassador Arkady Antonovich Krakowezki to Albania. Due to internal political tensions, Noli wanted to delay the establishment of diplomatic relations, which is why the Soviets left Tirana a few days after arriving in December 1924. On September 17, 1934, the Soviet ambassador in Athens , Mikhail Weniaminowitsch Kobezki, was also accredited to Albania. On April 7, 1939 diplomatic relations were ended as a result of the occupation of Albania by the Kingdom of Italy.

On November 10, 1945 diplomatic relations were established at prime ministerial level . On August 4, 1952, the Soviet diplomatic mission in Tirana was upgraded to an embassy. On November 25, 1961, the Soviet ambassador was recalled and diplomatic relations broken off after Enver Hoxha had distanced himself from the Soviet course. The ambassador Josif Schikin was withdrawn.

On July 30, 1990, the two states agreed to resume diplomatic relations.
