List of endangered farm animal breeds in Austria

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The list of endangered farm animal breeds in Austria gives an overview of breeds of farm animals that are native to Austria, are classified as endangered there , are looked after by recognized animal breeding organizations and, if necessary, within the scope of the project type "Conservation of endangered farm animal breeds" of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Environment and water management are eligible.

Endangered farm animal breeds

For the measure “Conservation of endangered livestock breeds” in the Austrian program for environmentally friendly agriculture (ÖPUL) of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management and for the associated gene conservation program “Rare livestock breeds worthy of conservation”, ÖNGENE compiled a list of rare livestock breeds. Breeds that are not included in this list are identified as such.

Farm animals without the ÖPUL program

In Austria, the Austrian National Association for Gene Reserves (ÖNGENE) is dedicated to taking stock of endangered domestic livestock breeds and takes measures to preserve these breeds.

The Arche Austria - Association for the Conservation of Rare Livestock Breeds - also endeavors to preserve endangered livestock species in Austria . The association also keeps a register of endangered breeds.

The breed list of the measure “Conservation of endangered livestock breeds” in the ÖPUL program can be expanded to include these endangered breeds additionally named by ÖNGENE and Arche Austria.

Bees

In Austria two indigenous "bee races" are known, which beekeeping associations try to keep in pure breeding . However, there is no Austria-wide conservation concept for the local honey bees.

Rare poultry breeds

Rare poultry breeds from Austria are not funded in the ÖPUL program. They are therefore listed here without the degree of threat to the continued existence of the company. The conservation breeding of these breeds is supervised in Austria by Arche Austria in cooperation with the Breed Association of Austrian Small Animal Breeders (RÖK). ÖNGENE accompanies you with projects.
