List of important terra sigillata vessel shapes
The list of important terra sigillata vessel forms gives an overview of the different vessel types of Roman terra sigillata (TS). Since the forms show chronological developments due to fashion and taste, the vessel forms, along with the hallmarks of decorated vessels and the potter's stamps, are an important dating feature. In addition, TS is present at almost every Roman site. The forms are usually named after eponymous sites such as Haltern, Hofheim or Hesselbach or after important researchers (Déchelette, Dragendorff, Ritterling).
The list includes forms that are more common in the northwestern provinces. Completeness cannot be sought due to rare and special forms as well as overlapping typologies. Concordances (e.g. Dragendorff 31 / Niederbieber 1b ) are given whenever possible.
