Livgardets dragonmusikkår

The Livgardets dragonmusikkår , or LDK for short ( German  trumpet corps of the life guards on horseback ), is the mounted brass band of the Swedish life guards on horseback in Stockholm and thus one of the three music corps of the live guard . It is used together with the body squadron of the body battalion of the bodyguard for protocol honorary service on horseback. These include the state ceremony of the king , the government, the Reichstag and the generals, as well as parades at the changing of the guard . Concerts with a brass orchestra and with smaller chamber music ensembles are also part of the field of activity. There are 30 musicians in the trumpet corps who, like the body squadron, are equipped with the parade uniform m / 1895 of the life guards on horseback. The command command for the military music service of the Swedish Wehrmacht is the Military Music Staff Försvarsmusiken (FöMus).

General

The trumpet corps, the body squadron and 80 horses have been quartered in the cavalry barracks in Stockholm since September 14, 1897. The trumpet corps takes part in around 150 performances each year, of which around 45 are parade on horseback. They have a permanent place in the musical life of Stockholm, for example with regular concerts in the Berwaldhalle and the Konserthuset . In 2014 the Trumpeter Corps was used for musical purposes in Afghanistan and in 2014 in Kosovo.

history

When Gustav I. Wasa was crowned in 1521, his Gardes du Corps had 2 trumpeters. In 1526 he set up a first cavalry regiment - Uplands Ryttare ( German  Uplands Reiter ) with a structure of 12 companies of 2 trumpeters each. The Uplands Ryttare served in all Swedish campaigns and wars until 1927. The Uplands ryttare were with the Kungl. Lifgardet till häst ( German  royal bodyguard on horseback ) amalgamated into a regiment with five squadrons and a mounted, 16-man trumpeter corps. The new name of this regiment was Kungliga Livregementet till häst ( German  royal body regiment on horseback ). In 1949 the Kungliga Livregementet till häst was dissolved and replaced by a single mounted squadron with a mounted trumpet corps. In 1971 all professional music corps and the mounted trumpeter corps were transferred to "regional music" outside the armed forces ; however, they retained their military musical duties. The trumpet corps now comprised stick trumpeters, timpani and 16 musicians. From 1990 musicians performing military service were able to do their military service again in the mounted trumpet corps, and from 1992 all positions in the trumpet corps, which were now part of the bodyguard on horseback, were filled with military service. When compulsory military service was abolished in 2010, professional musicians were recruited again and from 2012 all positions were filled with professional musicians.

The special line-up was developed under the influence of the great cavalry music reform that took place under Wilhelm Wieprecht in Prussia between 1824 and 1840.

structure

The trumpet corps consists of 30 musicians - 27 wind players and three percussionists, led by the head of the trumpet corps, his deputy, the music director and a baton drum. The staff drum is chief sergeant ( Swedish Fanjunkare ) Eugen Qvarnström, music director is David Björkman.
