The National Stud Kladruby nad Labem ( Národní hřebčín Kladruby nad Labem ) is a state stud in Kladruby nad Labem in the Czech Republic . The stud, which was appointed court stud by Emperor Rudolf II in 1579 , is one of the oldest studs in Europe.

In 2019, the National Stud Kladruby nad Labem of which was UNESCO under the term landscape for breeding and dressage of ceremonial carriage horses in Kladruby nad Labem (Landscape for Breeding and Training of Ceremonial Carriage Horses at Kladruby nad Labem) for World Heritage declared.

Members of the Pernstein family were horse breeders in the Pardubice area . In 1560 the enclosure in Kladruby came to Maximilian II. In 1579 his successor Rudolf II appointed it to the court stud, which bred horses for the Prague and Vienna courts until the end of the Austro-Hungarian monarchy .

Different horse breeds were originally bred in Kladruby. Since the end of the 18th century, only white horses and black horses were bred as the state horse breeding establishment, with white horses being used for representative purposes, while black horses served high spiritual dignitaries.

For the breeding in Kladruby especially Charles VI sat down . who also had the winter riding school of the Spanish Riding School built in Vienna . In 1757 the stud was struck by a great fire, in which not only the buildings but also all the old breeding papers were destroyed by flames. Therefore, the black Pepoli from 1764 is considered the progenitor of today's breeding line.

In 1770 the stud was rebuilt by Joseph II with the Josephshof. The whole and warm blood breeding started in 1826. In 1831 the Franzenshof in Selmice was created by Emperor Franz I.

The foal stable burned down in Selmice in 1873, but was rebuilt in the same year.

From 1922 the child psychologist Zdeněk Matějček grew up here as the son of the director.

In 1945, the Rapp herd in the stud of was Slatiňany , which in Castle Slatiňany is housed outsourced. At the same time a research institute for horse breeding was founded. A professional riding school was established in 1952.

The Altkladruber horse breed was recognized as a cultural monument in 1995 . In 2002 the stud with the herd of Old Kladruber white horses was declared a national cultural monument of the Czech Republic.

Since 2003, the stud has been open to both specialist and general public again.
