Ljudevit Rupčić

Ljudevit Rupčić (born November 26, 1920 in Hardomilje near Ljubuški , Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes , today Bosnia-Herzegovina ; † June 25, 2003 in Mostar , Bosnia-Herzegovina) was a Croatian Franciscan (OFM) and author .

Life

Ljudevit Rupčić was born in 1920 in the Herzegovinian village of Hardomilje, in the immediate vicinity of Ljubuški . In 1939 he entered the Franciscan Order of the Herzegovinian Franciscan Province . Ordained a priest in 1946 , he completed his theological studies in Zagreb in 1947.

He obtained his doctorate in 1958 at the Faculty of Theology in Zagreb , where Rupčić completed his habilitation in 1971. He taught his subject, the exegesis of the New Testament , between 1958 and 1988 at the Roman Catholic faculties in Sarajevo and Zagreb. At the time of communist Yugoslavia he came for alleged national activity in pre-trial detention and prison way . Pretrial detention took place in Maribor , Zagreb and Sarajevo and lasted two months and 13 days from May 20 to August 2, 1945.

Ljudevit Rupčić was sentenced to one year imprisonment in 1947, of which he spent eight months in the prisons of Zagreb and Vrapac. In 1952 he was sentenced to four years in prison, which he served in the prisons of Ljubuški, Mostar and Zenica from March 15, 1952 to March 15, 1956. Rupčić was a member of the Theological Commission in the former All-Yugoslav Bishops' Conference between 1968 and 1981 .

As an exegete of the New Testament, Rupčić translated it from the original into the Croatian language. He was also the author of many books, articles and studies in English, German, French, Italian and Croatian. He lectured at numerous church congresses and symposia in Europe and America. He took a positive view of the “place of pilgrimage” Medjugorje and published books and articles on it. He died in 2003 at the age of 83.
