Llano is a city in and the county seat of Llano County , Texas . In 2000 the city had 3,325 inhabitants with an area of 12,173 km².
The city was founded as the seat of the county of the same name shortly after it was constituted on February 24, 1854. The city and county are named after the Llano River , on the banks of which the city is located. Until the 1870s, the Llano was little more than a trading outpost with a post office. In the mid-1880s, rich ore deposits were discovered north of the city and with the exploitation of these, Llano experienced an economic boom until the mid-1890s , which led to the connection to the Texan railway network.
