Locomondo is a seven-piece band from Athens , Greece , who combine reggae and ska with elements of traditional Greek music .
history
The band's first album, Enas Trelos Kosmos (Ένας Τρελός Κόσμος 'Eine Verrückte Welt'), was released in 2004 on the Greek label MBI. In 2005 the band traveled to Jamaica and recorded their second album 12 Meres stin Jamaica (12 Μέρες στην Jamaica '12 days in Jamaica '). Locomondo gained a certain fame outside of Greece when the radio stations Funkhaus Europa and Radio France Internationale recorded their song Stin Athina (Στην Αθήνα 'In Athens') in their rotation. In 2007 the singer Markos Koumaris performed with the band Beat 'n Blow in Berlin and together with them won the music competition of the Carnival of Cultures . Locomondo played as the opening act for Manu Chao , The Skatalites , Chumbawamba , Ojos de Brujo and Amparanoia, among others . They also worked with Amparo Sánchez on their third album "Me Wanna Dance" , which was released in 2005.
In 2008 the band wrote the soundtrack for the film To gamilio party (Το γαμήλιο πάρτυ) by the Greek director Christine Crokos . In 2009 they appeared on the soundtrack to Fatih Akın's film Soul Kitchen with the song Frangosyriani (Φραγκοσυριανή), which is a cover version of a Rembetiko piece by Markos Vamvakaris . Locomondo has been under contract with the Music Box record company since 2008 .
Locomondo worked with well-known Greek musicians, including the singer Eleni Dimou and the rock musician Vasilis Papakonstantinou , with whom they recorded the song Kitharistas tou theou (Κιθαρίστας του θεού). To her at the 2010 FIFA World Cup released single Goal! they shot a video together with national player Dimitrios Salpingidis .
Locomondo's texts are mostly written in Greek or English . The band's repertoire also includes songs in German . The single Goal! published Locomondo in Germany with a German text under the title Tor! In April 2011 Locomondo released the compilation Best of, their first album on the international market, which includes a cover version of the hit Greek wine by Udo Jürgens . The album was also released in 2012 in a limited edition (300) as picture vinyl .
