Lola Bobesco
Lola Violeta Ana-Maria Bobesco (born Bobescu ; born August 9, 1921 in Craiova ; † September 4, 2003 in Sart-lez-Spa ) was a Belgian violinist of Romanian origin.
Life
The daughter of the composer and conductor Aurel Bobescu began taking violin lessons from the age of three and, accompanied by her father, appeared in public for the first time at the age of seven. From 1928 to 1930 she studied with Marcel Chailley at the École normal de Musique in Paris, then until 1935 at the Paris Conservatory with Jules Boucherit .
In Paris, Bobesco made his piano debut in 1933 with Céliny Chailley-Richez, accompanied by César Franck's violin sonata and Gabriel Fauré's first violin sonata. In 1936 she performed Beethoven's Violin Concerto with the Orchester Colonne under Paul Paray . In 1937 she took seventh place at the Concours Eugène Ysaye in Belgium and subsequently had the opportunity to perform with Willem Mengelberg , Willem van Otterloo and Ernest Ansermet .
In 1938 Jacques Gisbien became her impresario. He brought her together with the pianist Jacques Genty , a student of Lazare Lévy , with whom she performed all of Mozart's , Brahms' and Schubert 's violin sonatas . In the late 1930s she also formed a trio with the cellist Antonio Janigro and the pianist Dinu Lipatti , with whom she played works by Beethoven, Brahms and Schubert.
The Second World War interrupted Bobesco's musical career. Her piano partner Genty, whom she married after the liberation of Paris in 1944, was active in the Resistance during this time , for which she maintained ties to Belgium. In 1946 she appeared with Genty in the series Jeunes talents français at the Palais des Beaux-Arts in Brussels and received an offer from Philippe de Borbure to live in his castle near Brussels. From then on she made Brussels the center of her life and founded the Orchester Royal de Chambre de Wallonie in Liège in 1958 .
In 1960 she appeared for the first time under the direction of Hans Schmidt-Isserstedt with the Berliner Philharmoniker , from which she was invited a total of three times, and she gave concerts under Karl Böhm , Otto Klemperer , Rudolf Kempe and Ernest Ansermet . From 1962 to 1964 she taught at the Conservatories of Brussels and Liège. She was discovered by music lovers in Tokyo around 1980 and had late successes as a violinist in Japan. In 1991 she founded the string quartet L'Arte del Suono in Brussels .
