Lola Colt ... she spits in the devil's face is a spaghetti western with musical elements in which - unique for the genre - a black heroine takes center stage. The film had its first showing in Germany on October 23, 1970, three years after it was made.

action

In the city of Santa Ana, which is controlled by El Diablo and his gang of Mexican bandits, a singing and dancing troupe arrives. One of the show girls, Virginia, suffers from malaria, so the troupe is forced to stay longer. The townspeople are not enthusiastic about it, but the saloon owner allows them to stay. This allows Lola to sing some songs, show her clothes and mess with El Diablo. Its scam is to extort protection money; if he refuses, he takes hostages, takes them to a secret ranch and kills them if the city refuses to pay. Former medical student Rod, who lives in town and cares for Virginia, falls in love with Lola. After the death of a little boy, the local men lose their restraint and stick with Lola, who can put El Diablo in a duel and free the hostages. Rod leaves town with Lola and the group.

criticism

"Cheap spaghetti westerns who mix their brutalities with show interludes."

“Of course, the Western part takes a back seat to the extraordinary ingredients, but Marcellini manages to keep the fire simmering. Good B-Western material. "

- Christian Keßler : Willkommen in der Hölle, 2002, p. 135.

Others

  • The songs in the film, numbers reminiscent of Tamla Motown , are sung by Lola Falana : “Scrivimi il tuo nome sulla mano” and “Uno come te”. She also sings a version of the gospel classic "Swing low, sweet chariot".
