The Longotea district is located in the Bolívar Province in the La Libertad region in western Peru . The district was established on November 20, 1916. It has an area of 189 km². The 2017 census counted 2298 inhabitants. In 1993 the population was 2433, in 2007 2306. The district administration is located in the 2650 m high village Longotea with 290 inhabitants (as of 2017). Longotea is located 22 km northwest of the provincial capital Bolívar .
Geographical location
The district of Longotea is located on the east bank of the north-flowing Río Marañón in the extreme northwest of the province of Bolívar. Its right tributaries Río Del Huayo and Río Pusac limit the district in the southwest and in the northwest.
The district of Longotea borders in the west with the districts José Sabogal ( province San Marcos ) and Oxamarca ( province Celendín ), in the north with the district Chuquibamba ( province Chachapoyas ), in the northeast with the district Uchumarca and in the south with the district Ucuncha .
