Lords and Ladies is a 1992 novel by Terry Pratchett . It is the fourteenth Discworld novel . The action takes place in Lancre . Lords and Ladies is one of the witch stories, accordingly, is the Lancresche witches trio at the center. The story follows Shakespeare's comedy A Midsummer Night's Dream in many motifs .

action

The young witch Magrat Knoblauch is about to marry the former court jester Verence, who has since become King of Lancre. However, she imagined life as an almost queen to be less boring. To top it all off, elves show up during the final preparations for the wedding reception. The thoughtless dances and rituals of some young witches have called them on the scene. In addition, it is midsummer and circular time, which makes the boundaries between the various dimensions particularly thin and permeable. Contrary to popular belief, elves are neither good nor beautiful, but a species of arrogant, vicious and sadistic bastards who have great fun tormenting the weaker. After the elf queen has taken control of the bridegroom during the festive play, Magrat and the other witches have their hands full to bring the situation back under control. The fact that some of the festival guests, in the form of magicians, fall between their feet doesn't make it any easier, especially because Grandma Weatherwax recognizes an old childhood love in Mustrum Ridcully , long believed lost.
