action

The good fairy Desiderata Hohlig dies and leaves her wand to the young witch Magrat Knoblauch - but without instructions for use. In an accompanying letter, she instructs Magrat to travel to Gennua to prevent a certain prince from marrying the princess. Cleverly applied psychology - she expressly forbids a certain Esmeralda Wetterwax and her friend Nanny Ogg Magrat from being allowed to accompany them - ensures the appropriate travel support.

The trio is on their way to Gennua within a very short time. First on brooms, later on the waterway, they approach their target area inexorably. Meanwhile, Magrat is practicing with the magic wand, but apart from turning everything into pumpkins, she doesn't want to succeed with it. They cover the last miles to the city on foot. Grandma Weatherwax had a threatening feeling during the whole trip, which is now increasing more and more.

Gennua is firmly in the hands of the fairy godmother Lily, who unfortunately has strayed from the path of virtue. For years she has been manipulating reality and people, forcing them to live in fairytale stories. She has turned a frog into a prince and tries to marry him off to Ella, the daughter of the late baron, in order to legitimize her rule. This must be prevented.

Surprisingly, Lily turns out to be Esme Weatherwax's missing sister, making it a family affair. With the help of Greebo, Nanny Oggs Kater, and Mrs. Gogol, a zombie-loving voodoo witch, they prevent the unhappy union. The three of them use the way back to Lancre for a few tourist excursions and marvel at the elephants.
