action

Once again, the auditors , the accountants of the universe (English: "Auditors"), who already retired death in Alles Sense, try to cause problems for life on the Discworld. You conclude a 3 million dollar contract with the Assassin's Guild for the murder of the Snow Father (English Hogfather , the Discworld equivalent of Santa Claus), the Herr Kaffeetrinken (English Teatime, pronounced "Teh-ah-tim-eh") pretty insane killer even for the assassins. His plan does not work out completely, but the murder attack has weakened the Snow Father so much that he can no longer fulfill his duties. On New Year's Eve, the snow dad and his sleigh pulled by four pigs have to fulfill all the wishes that the children have written on their wish lists, otherwise the sun wouldn't rise on New Year's morning.

Nobody really believes in this legend anymore, but both Death and the Auditors know that it is true. Inevitably, death itself slips into this role and, disguised as snow father, delivers presents. It is important to keep faith in the Snow Father alive at all costs. Death really enjoys this new job, after all it has never been so eagerly awaited. Increasing commercialization and the sweet clichés of Christmas are expressed in some absurd scenes. In an Ankh-Morpork department store, Death miming Snow Father takes the place that is actually reserved for an actor disguised as Snow Father. Instead of artificial pigs, to the delight of the children, only bristly, stinking and steaming peeing wild boars surround the chunky sleigh of the Snow Father. The little ones also get exactly what they want for Christmas, no matter how expensive or dangerous those wishes are.

Susanne Sto Helit , death's granddaughter, has to look for the snow father. Its sudden disappearance has left a huge vacuum of faith on the Discworld, which is now beginning to fill itself. All possible and impossible creatures are becoming reality. The power of the word, especially when the word is pronounced by a magician, takes on a whole new meaning. So appears Warzengnom a Haarausfallfee which Sockenvertilger that Gutelaunefee and finally, the O-God-the-hangover .

With the help of O-Gott-des-Katzenjammers, Susanne determines how the attack on the Snow Father took place and where the villains are. It is the castle of the tooth fairy, where the assassin, with the help of the oldest voodoo, shakes the children's belief in the snow father through the collected teeth. Susanne's attempt to put a stop to the hustle and bustle ends almost in disaster. Herr Kaffeetrinken initially proves to be up to her.
