Hogfather - Schaurige Weihnachten (Original title: Terry Pratchett's Hogfather ) is a two-part television adaptation of Terry Pratchett's novel Schweinsgalopp (Original title: Hogfather ) from 2006. It was the first real-world adaptation of a discworld novel . It was first broadcast on December 17 and 18, 2006 on the British broadcaster Sky1 .

action

The plot of the series is closely based on that of the novel Hogfather from Terry Pratchett's Discworld cycle. The Hogfather (also Snow Father), the discworld equivalent of Santa Claus , disappeared without a trace on New Year's Eve . So that the sun can rise again the next morning, death takes its place and distributes the gifts to children. Susan, Death's granddaughter , tries to find out what happened.

production

The film version was shot with a budget of GBP 6 million by the production company The Mob in London's Three Mills Studios in HDTV format as Sky1's first in-house production.

occupation

Terry Pratchett himself has a cameo as the odd toy maker Joshua Isme (a play on words, in German: Joshua am I ) of his store Toys Is Me (German toys are mine, also an allusion to the US toy chain Toys “R” Us ) is working. This role was not intended in the novel and Terry Patchett is canceled in the credits with Mucked About By ... (German about: messed around by ... ).

The name Michelle Dockerys , who plays Death of the Rats, was featured in the credits as an anagram; Dorckey Hellmice shown.

Both Nigel Planer , who plays Sideney and the auditor's voice, and Tony Robinson , who plays Mr. Crumley, have read many English audiobook editions of the Discworld novels, and both had speaking roles in the Discworld video games .

In Hogfather, Ian Richardson spoke to Albert as death: “ You may think I've already thought of that, but I could not possible comment ”, a reference to a similar statement in his role as Francis Urquhart in the House of Cards series . This was the last role shown on television before his death. David Jason later played Rincewind in the film adaptation of The Color of Magic .

Charisma

The film was broadcast in numerous countries. In 2007 the Australian broadcaster Seven Network broadcast Hogfather on December 23rd and 24th. The French broadcaster M6 broadcast both parts as Les Contes du Disque-Monde (German: Tales of the Disc World ) on Christmas Eve 2007, while the German broadcaster ProSieben and the US American ION broadcast the film on Christmas Day.
